Day Two

Today, the Akana family got more good news as they learned that the show and Brookfield Homes Hawai’i will also construct the largest structure in the show’s history when they erect a new center to house mom Momi Akana’s non-profit organization, Keiki O Ka Aina (KOKA) Family Learning Center. On site, the builders, craftsmen and community volunteers joined the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s design team as they rushed the house in a symbolic gesture in preparation for the demolition and building marathon. Following a traditional Hawaiian blessing and groundbreaking ceremony, the real work began with the demolition of the existing community center and grading of the land.

Building Industry Association of Hawaii
Hawaii’s professional trade organization, representing the building industry and its associates, continues to play an instrumental role in the build. The organization’s primary charge is to assist with the coordination of all volunteers as well as overseeing worker check-in and shuttles to the site, which proved especially important today as they coordinated more than 300 workers and community volunteers for the “Braveheart” march.
