The marathon build continues as the exterior of the Akana home looks almost complete.
The rails around the decking were installed over the evening and painting began on the exterior of the home. The new Keiki O Ka Aina learning center is beginning to take shape. The foundation was laid last night and the framing went up this morning. Volunteers continue to show up in droves and even a celebrity pitched in to help.
Sponsor Highlight - Painting and Decorating Contractors Union of Hawaii
Today, with painting underway on the Akana family home, we turn the spotlight on the Painting Industry of Hawaii. This cooperative alliance made up of the Painting and Decorating Contractors Association (PDCA) of Hawaii and the Painters Local Union 1791, pulled together an army of painters who are working vigorously to prime and paint the family’s new home. No rest for the weary, once the painting is done here, they’ll move on to the Keiki O Ka Aina Family Learning Center.

Laura Weaver ~ Hawaiian Telcom
Believe it or not, Laura Weaver started her day off in a crisp, clean blue Extreme Makeover: Home Edition work shirt. However, after making numerous runs of bottled water, coffee, and snacks to the hardworking crew on the site in addition to multiple trash runs, the site’s muddy condition caught up with her. What did she do? She kept right on going in the true spirit of volunteerism and team work!
