Day Five

With the help of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition designer Paul DiMeo the call went out this morning for more volunteers and the community responded with drywallers, tile setters, framers, finishers, and siding installers. For their hard work and dedication Keali’i Reichel, who just happens to be Momi Akana’s favorite Hawaiian musical artist, surprised workers with a special concert on the build site, serenading them as they worked to complete the project.

Flying in over 45 volunteers from neighbor islands, Jade Construction has remained busy on the job site donating over 1300 man hours to the project. Jade Construction is responsible for installing doors and windows and applying the siding and trim for the Akana family home as well as the community center. Jade member’s spirits remain high as they push towards making the Akana family’s dream come true.

Volunteer of the Day
Louise Shinkoethe
Red Bull employee, Louise Shinkoethe spent the day providing energy drinks to the working volunteers to keep them going throughout the night. To date, Red Bull has donated nearly 1000 cans to the project. “Everyone has been so grateful and the workers are in dire need of a energy blast,” says Louise. “We are happy that we are able to contribute and be a part of such a great cause.”
